All about bones

Good bye O&G :(

and Hellooo Orthopaedics!!

I'm going to say this again... TIME FLIES! 7 weeks flew by in the O&G posting and now we're posted to the 4th floor of the hospital - the Orthopaedic Ward. Basically, what is orthopedics? Its a branch of surgery that deals with the skeletal system (bones, muscles, joints, ligaments etc)

Take a step into the ward and you'll see all the patients bound up in hand cast, foot casts, plaster of paris, splints & etc. One diagnosis frequently found on most of the case files : Alleged Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA). Yes, up here in T'ganu we have our fair portion of Mat Rempits too. In fact their nightly races can be heard every other night without fail. Just open the windows at 12am and wait for the raving of the engines (i hear it, i hear it!)

Below are the scenarios on what happened in week 1 :)

LOCATION : ORTHOPAEDIC WARD

Day 1 (a middle aged patient)

Me : Mak cik, kenapa masuk ward? Accident ke?
Lady patient : Ya, pagi semalam husband langgar pokok
Me : Oh okk *busily scribbling notes*

Day 2 (young boy)

Me : Adik, nampaknya adik patah kaki kiri dan tangan kanan. Apa terjadi?
Young boy : Abang bawa motorsikal. Lepas itu, langgar kerbau
Me : Ooh ........ *wonders how is condition of the kerbau*

Day 3 (young man)

Student : Encik, nampaknya encik cedera banyak & baru pulih. Apa terjadi?
Man : Gajah pijak & tendang saya!
Student : *eyes widen*

So you see, the orthopedic ward is not as boring as claimed to be *grins*
