Held by His love

Its 1am,i just got back from night duty at the labour room.

My back hurts, legs are aching, my eyes are half open

I'm exhausted..

Plus i came back with a lovely smell : a mixture of blood + amniotic liquid + the smell of newborns and their meconium *sniff sniff*

BUT i'm exhilarated. It was the rush of adrenaline in the labour room that kept me going past my bedtime. The labour room was packed with lots of activity and drama tonight! Women just kept coming in and giving birth at the hours we were there (it was God's perfect timing) to the extent that the newborn's had to share cots. 2 tiny tots were squeezed back-to-back in a cot. They were so adorable. I can't tell if their continuous wailing was due to delight of having company in the cot or due to dislike of the other occupant *laughs*

Oh and i delivered another baby today. A healthy beautiful girl at 3.1kg *yet another girl!*

Praise God for the opportunity to welcome yet another precious life. I just can't describe the feeling of touching the head deep inside the canal, pulling & watching the baby slide out onto open hands, cutting the umbilical cord and the best part : announcing whether its a pink or blue arrival *smiles* And its always so wonderful to see the joy on the parents face when their baby is placed on the mother's chest for the 1st touch/introduction.

Where there are happy moments, there are also not so happy moments. Tonight there was a rare case of a lady waiting to deliver a baby with anencephaly. I've blogged about this before (see the list of previous post). Upon 1st impression, what striked me was the expression of this parents. It was just so different from the joyous & expecting expressions of the other expecting parents. Basically she was just waiting to deliver a baby that will survive for less than 2 days. When i talked to her, she shared her story with me and her how her love for the baby made her keep this pregnancy even though she knew the fetus had no chance of surviving. During the next remaining months, she never gave up hope nor loving the child. There were tears in her eyes as she talked and towards the end she thank me for listening & just being there to talk to her *touched*

This encounter reminded me once again of God's great love for each and every one of us. Just like the mother, He never gave up on us, ever loving and caring despite the pain and grief we may cause Him at times. All He wants to do is to love you so don't focus on your love for Him but rather on His love for you which never changes!

May you all be bless by this story & I pray that you'll continue to experience His great love for you :)
